Qualcomm and Google have redesigned the Snapdragon-powered Googlebook around agentic artificial intelligence (AI).
Prajakta Gudadhe, Google executive vice president of engineering for laptops and tablets, said at Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui on Sept. 24 local time that working with Qualcomm showed the companies they could not build an agentic AI-first laptop using a 20-year-old desktop PC architecture. "We fundamentally rethought the computer" in pursuit of faster innovation, Gudadhe said.
Googlebook is a laptop centered on agentic AI. Google's AI agent, Gemini Intelligence, is integrated at the operating system (OS) level, while Qualcomm's Snapdragon X computing platform serves as its processing engine.
PCs and smartphones have evolved for more than a decade on separate technology architectures. To run mobile applications on a PC, users typically had to use an emulator or run a mobile OS on top of the PC OS through a virtual machine (VM), effectively patching the two environments together. Gudadhe described them as separate "technology islands."
Googlebook takes a different approach. Desktop web processes and mobile apps run natively on the underlying OS without an emulator or VM, allowing them to use the full performance of the bare-metal chipset. That avoids the performance loss associated with running apps through additional virtualization layers. It also prevents unnecessary power consumption during lighter workloads and helps maximize battery life.

Nitin Kumar, Qualcomm executive vice president of product management, said Googlebook's shift to a bare-metal execution environment means the premium experience of Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite carries over directly. Snapdragon has accumulated years of experience in power efficiency, optimization and native app support, he said.
Googlebook also supports Continue On, a cross-device feature connecting smartphones and Googlebook. Gudadhe said the feature is possible because smartphones and Googlebook share a common Android technology stack. A task started on one device can immediately be handed off when another device is better suited to completing it.
For example, choosing seats while booking concert tickets can be cumbersome on a smartphone's smaller display. Continue On allows users to move the seat-selection and booking process seamlessly to Googlebook's larger screen and complete it there.
Googlebook also supports Cast Your Apps, which displays smartphone apps on the laptop, and Quick Access, which provides immediate access from Googlebook to files stored on a smartphone.
"Googlebook is an entirely new category of product based on the Snapdragon X Series," Kumar said. It provides the intelligent computing, instant responsiveness, all-day battery life and smartphone-to-laptop continuity needed for PCs in the agentic AI era, he said.
Qualcomm and Google also demonstrated how Googlebook can automatically create apps using simple inputs such as voice and mouse controls. The demonstration used Antigravity, an on-device AI agent-based app development platform; Rambler, a multilingual voice-input tool; and Magic Pointer, which extracts app designs and code snippets from content displayed on the screen.
