LG Electronics is expanding its physical AI business through a broader technology partnership with Nvidia, pursuing joint projects in manufacturing robots, AI data centers and mobility while building an integrated robotics business spanning hardware, software and core components.

During the company’s second-quarter earnings conference call, Kim Chang-tae, executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) of LG Electronics, said the two companies are advancing collaborative projects that combine LG’s robotics and manufacturing capabilities with Nvidia’s physical AI technology stack.

“We are pursuing joint projects that integrate LG’s robotics hardware technologies and manufacturing expertise with Nvidia’s physical AI technology stack,” Kim said.

LG Electronics and Nvidia are working together on manufacturing robots from the proof-of-concept stage through deployment in real-world industrial environments. The collaboration also includes the development of robot data factories, enhancement of robot foundation models, and creation of simulation and validation platforms.

In the AI data center (AIDC) sector, the companies are integrating Nvidia’s AI data center platform technologies with LG Electronics’ infrastructure solutions. They are also jointly developing next-generation high-density cooling technologies for data centers. In the mobility sector, the companies are evaluating next-generation high-performance computing platforms and building related development environments for future automotive applications. CFO Kim said broader strategic cooperation at the ecosystem level remains a possibility.

“A strategic partnership at the platform ecosystem level can certainly be considered,” he said.

The collaboration follows a high-level executive meeting held at LG Twin Towers in Seoul, attended by LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang. At the meeting, the two companies agreed to expand long-term cooperation across emerging AI sectors, including physical AI, AI infrastructure and mobility. The latest conference call provided additional details on projects involving manufacturing robots, data center cooling technologies and automotive computing systems.

LG Electronics recently established a Robotics Business Center reporting directly to the CEO to oversee its physical AI initiatives. The new organization is responsible for the entire robotics value chain, including business development, supply chain management, manufacturing and sales.

Bae Seok-hyung, head of robotics sales at LG Electronics, said the company’s ultimate goal is to become a customized physical AI solution provider capable of integrating robotics hardware, core components, data platforms, AI agents and robot operating systems.

LG Electronics also plans to draw on technologies from across the LG Group. The company intends to combine EXAONE, the large language model developed by the LG AI Research Institute, with software platforms from LG CNS, vision and robotic hand technologies from LG Innotek, and battery technologies from LG Energy Solution.

“We are bringing together capabilities across the group under the One LG strategy,” Bae said. “In addition to Nvidia and other global technology companies, we are also advancing cooperation with competitive Chinese robotics companies.”

LG Electronics disclosed that production of robotic actuators, which serve as key motion-control components in robot joints, has entered the manufacturing stage. The company established a pilot production line at its Changwon facility during the first half of the year and has begun producing initial volumes. It is currently validating manufacturability and quality stability while preparing additional automation equipment and production infrastructure in the second half.

Yoo Jong-in, head of business management for LG Electronics’ Home Appliance Solution (HS) Division, said the company is engaged in joint development and collaboration projects with startups and robotics companies in South Korea, Europe and North America.

LG Electronics plans to expand both its actuator product portfolio and manufacturing capacity, with the goal of developing the business into a meaningful contributor to company-wide earnings by 2030. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with Robotis to expand technology and business cooperation.
