Palo Alto-based robotics company Tacta Systems has opened an office and production facility in Woodlands, Singapore. The site will initially produce the Tacta Glove, which captures the movements of skilled workers to teach robotic hands new tasks, ahead of the company's first customer deployments in early 2027.
The glove is worn by workers as they carry out real-world tasks, recording force, motion and temperature data that Tacta combines with video to train its robots, according to a press release from Tacta Systems. Expanding glove production will allow the company to deploy more of these Skill Capture systems as it begins working with manufacturers in the electronics, AI infrastructure and automotive industries.
The opening comes less than two months after Tacta first unveiled its technology. Its TactaBot combines the company's own robotic hand, the Skill Capture system and an AI engine intended to give robots the touch and dexterity needed for high-value manufacturing work.
"Singapore has the manufacturing expertise, engineering talent, and semiconductor ecosystem to help us do that. This facility gives us a strong base to grow from as we move toward customer deployments next year," says Vikram Pavate, co-founder and CEO of Tacta Systems.
In parallel, Tacta is working with the A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics to begin scaling production of the tactile sensors at the core of its technology. The expansion is supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and by EDBI, a strategic investor in the company. According to EDB Chairman Png Cheong Boon, Singapore will be Tacta's first manufacturing and engineering base outside the US.
Hiring across manufacturing, engineering and test engineering is set to accelerate in the fourth quarter. Tacta does not disclose the size of the facility, the investment or the number of planned hires.
