GIS(原Neontech)。
GIS (formerly Neontech).
GIS, formerly known as Neontech, said on Aug. 12 that it will expand production capacity for multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) manufacturing equipment. With production at its Anyang headquarters reaching full capacity, the company plans to add an MLCC equipment production line at its Gumi facility while establishing a subsidiary in the Philippines.
Rather than building a new factory, GIS will utilize the existing manufacturing infrastructure at its Gumi plant to produce MLCC equipment alongside current operations. The company said the approach will minimize large-scale capital expenditures while reducing the time required to expand production capacity.
The expansion comes in response to rising demand for MLCCs used in artificial intelligence (AI) servers. As of May, orders for the company's core AI-related MLCC equipment had increased more than threefold from a year earlier, while its total order backlog grew by approximately 180%.
Since operating under the Neontech name, GIS has specialized in developing and supplying MLCC cutters. The company said it developed its first MLCC cutter for a major customer in 2014 and has continued to build expertise in the technology. MLCC cutters are key back-end manufacturing systems used to separate stacked ceramic chips into individual components.
The additional production line in Gumi is also expected to strengthen support for customers in South Korea's southeastern region. Busan is home to Samsung Electro-Mechanics' major MLCC manufacturing operations. The planned Philippine subsidiary is also expected to support Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which operates production facilities in the country.
"Large-scale capacity expansion across South Korea's MLCC industry has recently been announced, particularly in the southeastern region including Busan," GIS said. "The Gumi plant offers logistical advantages because of its proximity to customers' manufacturing sites, enabling faster product deliveries, installation and maintenance services."
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has announced plans to invest 15 trillion won in its Busan operations by 2040 to expand production capacity for high-value-added MLCCs for AI servers and package substrates. Late last year, the company also invested 75.0 billion won to expand production capacity at its Calamba plant in the Philippines.
