Semiconductor test equipment maker NeoSem posted profit growth of more than 2,200% in the second quarter, benefiting from a boom in the memory semiconductor market.

NeoSem said August 14 that second-quarter revenue was 36 billion won, up 120.5% from a year earlier and 148% from the previous quarter. Operating profit was 11.417 billion won, up 2,208% from a year earlier and 1,809% from the previous quarter. Net income was 8.8 billion won, turning profitable from a year earlier and rising 281% from the previous quarter.

First-half revenue, including first-quarter results, reached 50.517 billion won, up about 62% from a year earlier. Operating profit was 12.015 billion won, about three times the 4.055 billion won posted for all of last year. First-half net income was about 11.1 billion won, up more than 5,809% from about 188 million won a year earlier.

The strong results were driven by solid-state drive (SSD) module test equipment, or testers. First-half SSD tester revenue was about 27.3 billion won, accounting for about 54.1% of total revenue. More than 94% of the company’s revenue each year comes from exports, including sales through overseas subsidiaries.

As demand for AI infrastructure rises worldwide, supplies of enterprise SSDs are increasing along with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and server dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) modules (RDIMMs). Memory makers are increasing investments to expand production capacity and improve quality, driving growth in the market for test equipment.

NeoSem began mass production and supply of its fourth-generation CPU-based SSD tester in 2019. In 2021, it developed what it described as the world’s first fifth-generation CPU-based tester. The company commercialized its sixth-generation tester last year. After global competitor Advantest exited the SSD tester business, NeoSem established a dominant position in the market.

Cumulative orders for sixth-generation SSD testers surpassed 10 billion won in the first half of this year, becoming a new driver of future revenue growth. NeoSem’s official website identifies SSD testing as one of its core businesses and lists multiple SSD test platforms, including its FX series.

Revenue from the automation equipment business, which had posted losses for an extended period, also returned to a growth trajectory. Orders are expected to increase for automation testers for Small Outline Compression Attached Memory Module (SOCAMM) 2 and memory test equipment supporting the Compute Express Link (CXL) 3.1 specification. The CXL memory tester market is expected to enter a full-fledged growth phase next year, with large-scale supplies of production equipment anticipated.

NeoSem said exports accounted for 91% of revenue in the first half of this year and that it aims to achieve continued quarterly growth in the second half, supported by balanced growth in both domestic and export sales.
