Iron Device

Iron Device said on Aug. 26 that it is participating in PCIM Asia 2026, a power electronics exhibition being held in Shenzhen, China, from Aug. 26 to 28.

The company showcased an ultra-compact gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductor for robotics applications. The device integrates a 100-volt (V) half-bridge GaN device and gate driver into a single package. Using fan-out wafer-level packaging (FoWLP), Iron Device reduced the device size by about 40% compared with competing products.

The device has an on-resistance, or RDS(on), of 5.5 milliohms (mΩ). Iron Device said the low resistance reduces heat generation and noise, enabling further miniaturization and improved power efficiency of quasi-direct drive (QDD) actuators, a key module used in robot joints.

Iron Device also demonstrated reliability testing at its exhibition booth. The company said the tests demonstrate stable thermal management and performance under high-load and continuous operating conditions.

Iron Device supplies smart power amplifiers used in mobile devices and other applications. As a future growth engine, the company has developed power integrated circuits (ICs) for compound-semiconductor power devices. It plans to expand applications into humanoid robot joint actuators, high-degree-of-freedom robotic hands and physical artificial intelligence (AI) devices.

“We will accelerate our push into high-value markets such as humanoid robots and AI data centers with products that offer superior competitiveness in miniaturization, high integration and low-loss characteristics compared with competing products,” said Sun Jung-hyun, vice president of Iron Device.
